On November 13, 1924, Władysław Reymont was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his monumental novel The Peasants. However, the writer, who had long struggled with health issues, including a heart attack, did not receive the news of the award with much enthusiasm, as he realized it might be his last great achievement. He passed away a year later, on December 5, 1925, at the age of only 58. In letters to friends, he wrote about the „irony of life”—on one hand, global fame and recognition, and on the other, a battle with illness that prevented him from fully enjoying his success.

13 listopada 1924 roku Władysław Reymont został uhonorowany Literacką Nagrodą Nobla za swoją monumentalną powieść „Chłopi”. Jednak pisarz, który od lat zmagał się z problemami zdrowotnymi, w tym z zawałem serca, nie przyjął wiadomości o nagrodzie ze zbytnim entuzjazmem, gdyż zdawał sobie sprawę z tego, że może to być jego ostatnie wielkie osiągnięcie. Zmarł rok później, 5 grudnia 1925 roku, mając zaledwie 58 lat. W listach do przyjaciół pisał o „ironii życia” – z jednej strony światowa sława i uznanie, a z drugiej walka z chorobą, która uniemożliwiała mu pełne korzystanie z sukcesu.
